Gavin and Stacey actress, Margeret John has died aged 84, it’s been announced this morning. The star, who also appeared in Welsh comedy, High Hopes, passed away in a Swansea hospital after a short illness.
John, starred in the show as neighbour Doris, in the BBC comedy based in Barry. Stars of the show have been quick to pay tribute to the actress, who recieved a Bafta Cyrmu lifetime acheivement award last year.
James Corden tweeted, “A great actress and incredible lady, She will be missed.” Matthew Horne, who plays Gavin, added, “Really sad to hear Margeret John has passed away, She was such a good women and fun to work with.”
Rob Byrdon also added,” Just heard the terribly sad news that Margeret John has passed away. What a wonderful person she was, everyonne on G&S adored her.”
The actress, born in Swansea, went to drama school, before leaving for breif spells in Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Doctor Who and Z Cars, before going on to play Marian Owen in soap, Crossroads.
She had a program made about her called, Margeret John: National Treasure which was shown on BBC Wales on St Davids Day last year.
The welsh actress will be sadly missed.
