Eastenders plan their own Royal wedding

Eastenders is planning a wedding battle this spring by taking on the wedding of the year with their own royal wedding.

The BBC One soap revealed yesterday that Phil Mitchell will get married to on-off love interest Shirley Carter on April 29th, the same day as the royal wedding, between Kate Middleton and Prince William at Westminster Abbey.

Steve McFadden, who plays Phil in Eastenders, is due to propose to Shirley on Monday night.

After suffering a heart attack, Phil fears he may die alone, and asks the Queen Vic barmaid again, having initially being turned down on this weekends episode.

A source on the show revealed: “The royal wedding is the biggest event of this year and, for soap fans, Phil Mitchell is pretty close to royalty having been a favourite since he arrived

“The show’s bosses thought a wedding storyline would be perfect to coincide with William and Kate.”

Lets hope there will be slighlty less drama at the royal wedding than eastenders have planned for Phils wedding. Shirley, played by Linda Henry finds that Glenda Mitchell, played by Glynis Barber, decides not to go down without a fight.

The Royal Family can only hope William’s nuptials go more smoothly than Phil’s, as Shirley’s (Linda Henry) love rival Glenda Mitchell, played by Glynis Barber, is determined not to go down without a fight.

The source added, “Phil’s journey to the altar is riddled with drama, as Glenda threatens to reveal her affair with Phil.”

Viewers last night saw Phil collapse after rival Ian Beale caught him with Glenda. Glenda ran off and Ian (Adam Woodyatt) calmly poured himself a drink at the bar as Phil writhed in agony.

Fortunately for Phil, Glenda called an ambulance as she left, which she is almost certain to use as she tries to wreck his marriage plans.
