The song ‘Wherever You Are’ sung by the Military Wives’ choir is in the running to be this year’s Christmas number 1 getting support from many places including some big name radio presenters. Users of social media titans Facebook and Twitter have backed the song, but it will not be alone in the running with the X-Factor single and many others vying for the top spot.
Nirvana’s Smell Like Teen Spirit
Chris Evans, radio presenter, is one high profile name that is backing the song and the bookmaker William Hill are offering odds of 10/1 of the song reaching the gloried position in the music charts.
However, this year will give rise to another anti-X Factor campaign with the Nirvana’s Smell Like Teen Spirit being pushed for the number 1 spot. In 2009 there was a huge campaign to get Rage Against The Machine to the number 1 spot which was successful, beating X Factors Joe McElderry.
There already a strong Facebook campaign to get the grunge classic to number 1, taking a similar course to the 2009 challenge. Facebook has been used as the vessel to get people to jump on the bandwagon and really affect the charts and if the Nirvana song continues to get the backing it has been there is no doubt that the this year the huge X Factor machine will be beaten again.
Also in the running are the cast of The Only Way Is Essex who will be releasing a version of Wham! Hit Last Christmas, and the Wombles will be releasing Wombling Merry Christmas. Both songs have a 7/1 chance of scoring the 2011 Christmas number 1, but with other big names in contention it might just be that these might just fade into the background.
Mariah Carey
Out of the X Factor contestants it is expected that Amelia Lily, the late comer into the show after being kicked off in the first week, will be the one to release the show’s Christmas song. She is also becoming one of the favourites to win the show after many of the original favourites have been voted off.
Mariah Carey will also be making an effort to get to number 1 singing All I Want For Christmas alongside teenage heart throb Justin Bieber, and if there was going to be any challenge to the X Factor and Nirvana battle then it could come from this song which is already a favourite for many people at this time of the year.
