Fans of James Bond the world over can rejoice at news released today about the latest film in the franchise, titled Skyfall. For those worried about rumours that the latest film would forego much of the action, in exchange for harder hitting themes and more dialogue, the director Sam Mendes has confirmed there will be plenty of action. Speaking of the rumours he said he was extremely excited to be directing the latest film and that there would be no cut back on action, for dialogue.
Daniel Craig will reprise the role of British Intelligence protagonist James Bond for the third time, while Dame Judi Dench will play Bond’s boss M for the seventh time. British actors Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Wilshaw will also appear in the film in yet to be disclosed roles. While it has not yet been confirmed whether or not, as rumoured, the villain in the film will be cat-stroking evil genius Ernst Blofeld, it has been confirmed that the actor Javier Bardem will play the film’s villain. Rounding out the cast will be the usual bevy of Bond girls, played by British actress Naomie Harris and French actress Bérénice Marlohe.
Little details of the plot were revealed, however it was confirmed that the story would be separate from that of the first two films – Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace – in the rebooted franchise. Bond will travel the world as usual, starting off in London and travelling to Scotland, Istanbul and Shanghai. The only confirmed details of the plot are that something from M’s past will come back to haunt her and test Bond’s loyalty to her. The producer’s added: “As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”
