Now we know why Maria Shriver left Arnold. The former US governor admitted to his wife that he had fathered a child with a member of the household staff over a decade ago.
Schwarzenegger, 63, told the Los Angeles Times: “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”
The name of the staffer and child have not been revealed in a bid to protect their privacy. It is reported that she had worked for the couple for 20 years and retired in January on good terms.
It has been confirmed that Schwarzenegger had taken financial responsibility for the child from the start and is still supporting the child.
Schwarzenegger and Shriver’s relationship had been in the spotlight over the years with reports of him groping women during his 2003 election for governor of California. Shriver remained the dutiful wife and defended her husband at the time, but most certainly won’t be supporting him during this latest report of infidelity.
In his statement, Schwarzenegger again called for privacy, asking the media to “respect my wife and children
through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”
