The nominations for this year’s Brit Awards have been revealed today for the ceremony which will be shown on ITV2 on 15 February.
Tinie Tempah is leading the way for potential awards, he has been nominated for British Male Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, British Single and Album of the Year.
The 2010 newcomer was overwhelmed by the news, saying “I don’t know what to say, I don’t know what to do, I don’t know where to put my hands, I don’t know if I’m sweating. It’s crazy.”
The singer’s close friend Plan B has also been nominated for the Male Solo Artist category as well as competing with Tinie Tempah for Best Single and Best Album, however the rapper gracefully wishes his friend success, he said “I just hope Tinie Tempah does well because I think he deserves it. I think me and him have been waving the flag for Great Britain.”
Despite accusations of miming, Cheryl Cole has been nominated for two Brit awards; Best British Single for her hit record Parachute, and Best British Female Artist.
One music industry source said “It is a real coup for Cheryl – and shows she is more than just a bubblegum pop star.”
Newly reformed Take That are also up for double awards, including the prestigious Best British Album category.
Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle was less successful in the nomination process, despite being named as the 7th Most Influential Person In The World by Time magazine last year. Susan has sold more than 15 million albums since her debut album was released at the end of November 2009.
One music industry insider said “she’s not cool and she’s not young…so she’s not for the Brits.”
Other acts nominated for awards include Ellie Goulding, Mark Ronson, Mumford & Sons, Florence & The Machine and Matt Cardle.
